Malini Bhattacharya, the President of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), spoke to our social media team in Visakhapatnam where she is a delegate to the 21st Congress of the CPI(M). She spoke on the increase in crimes against women in West Bengal under the Trinamool Government. According to her, there has been an exponential increase in the number of crimes against women, which is evident from the fact that West Bengal topped the list of States with maximum crimes against women in 2013. She raised concern over the brutal nature of the crimes, which includes gang rapes, rapes of small children and people with disability. She explained that the state government systematically has provoked its party workers to launch attacks on the female workers and sympathizers of the CPI(M). The administration, instead of registering cases, discourages these victims and mentally harasses them.
